Above the Line
I first heard of this book during a pre-season parent meeting for my daughter’s high-school cross country team. Her coach referred to this book as the inspiration behind some of the cultural expectations he set for his runners. He walked us through what it meant to consistently demonstrate Above the Line behavior and that in order for the team to achieve greatness they needed to show up as a team, put in the work and keep their attitude in check. The coach was so inspiring that I bought the book to learn more about this concept myself. To say the teaching in this book is transformative is an understatement! Many of the principles outlined in this book have greatly influenced my core leadership philosophy and I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to elevate their team’s performance to an elite level!

After leading his Ohio State Football players to three national championships, Urban Meyer provides unparalleled insights into leadership, team building, and the keys to empowering people to achieve things they might never have thought possible. In this book he outlines a championship winning gameplan that includes a culture built on trust and a commitment to a common purpose. Meyer asserts that the defining characteristic of every championship team is leadership, and that leadership isn't a difference maker, it is the difference maker. He teaches that leaders take teams beyond talent to a place they likely thought was unreachable. That average leaders have quotes - good leaders have a plan - and exceptional leaders have a system. These principles aren't just applicable on the football field ... they're transferrable to any field, including business! This book is an absolute must read for any leader looking to drive elite level performance and pull the best out of their people!
